Project Description

Four professional actors, including local actors Andrea Davy and Becky Matter starred in this modern fable, which was designed by Nettie Scriven. Props, puppets and costumes were designed and created by 30 students from the Nottingham Trent University Theatre design course. The story draws together themes and characters created by Peter Rumney working with Nottingham school pupils and their teachers. It centres on a dragon who flies into the twin towers of a medieval city. Characters include a princess sacrificed to a dragon by her own family, a young boy who is blamed for the ills of the world, and a Quixotic singing knight. A colourful narrator, the streetwise, opinionated jester - encourages audience reaction and adds earthy humour to the tale. Through this medieval story, the play aims to help children find positive ways of coping and dealing with challenges and difficulties in their lives. Creative Partnerships Nottingham has spearheaded the links between its Nottingham City partner schools and professional theatre and performance artists to create the production. It was a sell out season and ended on Friday 2 April 2004 to a roaring applause.
