‘My Money Week’ - Tranmere Park Primary School

Maths

Tranmere Park Primary School is keen to improve the maths ability of their children, and through this project aims to explore new and innovative ways of engaging the pupils, using real life situations to make the lessons exciting and relevant. This relates to priorities identified in the School Improvement Plan, of developing calculation skills, enhancing collaboration and creating independent children.

Enquiry Question:

In what ways do creative approaches to calculation help develop collaboration and independence for pupils in a business context?

Project Description

Tranmere Park Primary are looking to improve the maths skills of their Year 5 children through an exciting project based around Business and Enterprise.

The pupils will be designing their own products and services from start to finish; from imagining the possibilities and conducting market research to creating their products and managing the budget. The project will culminate in ‘My Money Week’, when the children will hold a business market to sell their new businesses to fellow pupils, teachers and parents.

Project Outcomes

During the project the pupils will have to take responsibility for their own business idea, where managing the budget will enhance their calculation skills. They will also have to collaborate and work closely together to make their business a success. The project will give the participants a real sense of ownership as their business ideas are taken seriously and realised.
