During the 2005-06 academic year London East and South commissioned 11 case studies that document a diverse range of projects. Each case study includes an outline of the project and identifies the impact and outcomes, and features reflections from teachers, students and creative partners. City and Islington College

Staff and students from City and Islington College’s performing arts department worked with filmmaker Eelyn Lee, physical theatre company Frantic Assembly, dance artist Denzil Barnes, musicians Charles James and Mohammed Zozo Shuaibu and a professional production team to devise a site specific performance piece incorporating theatre, music, dance and film around the theme of arrivals and departures.

Dog Kennel Hill Primary School

Dog Kennel Hill Primary School worked for two years with the London College of Communication on a series of printing projects. As with all previous Creative Partnerships projects at the school, the emphasis was on embedding this work in the curriculum and hence themes were drawn from relevant school topics. This case study describes the projects, how they developed over the two years and summarises the impact. The case study draws on interviews with the staff and pupils of Dog Kennel Hill and staff at the London College of Communication. Additional evidence was derived from the observations of Viv Moriarty, evaluation consultant.

Create and inspire at New City Primary School

Create and Inspire
New City Primary School

Over three years, New City Primary School has developed a relationship with Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a number of projects have taken place. Create and Inspire focused on children in six year 1 and year 2 classes who worked with tutors over eight weeks in the spring term 2006. The project culminated with two performances and the creation of a resource pack for teachers comprising a CD, photographs and lesson plans.

Developing a Learning Strategy for Artsadmin

Creative Partnerships London East and Artsadmin commissioned Howard Matthew to undertake a piece of action research, gathering evidence from Artsadmin, from artists supported by Artsadmin and from schools and other education stakeholders in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. His task was to make a significant contribution to Artsadmin’s aim of developing a learning policy and strategy. The project took place between February and June 2006.

Engaging parents creatively in the foundation stage
Manor and Star Primary Schools

The project took place in Manor and Star Primary Schools in spring 2006. Storyteller and writer Pauline Stewart and artist Auriol Hertford were engaged by Discover, the project partner, to work with nursery and reception classes, dividing seven days between the two schools. The aim of the project was to use stories, music and visual art in combination and in doing this to bring children, teachers, classroom assistants and parents together.

Archbishop Michael Ramsey Technology College

Archbishop Michael Ramsey Technology College and IPC Media joined forces in 2004 to pilot a media project for key stage 4 students that included work experience on IPC Media magazines. This case study describes the programme and considers how the evaluation of phase one informed the development of the programme in the second year. This case study is largely drawn from the evaluation report written by Viv Moriarty.

Thomas Buxton Infant and Junior Schools

Look at me was a six month project devised to improve the transition process for pupils moving from Thomas Buxton Infant School to Thomas Buxton Junior School. Artist Stephanie Gill used digital photography with year 2 and year 3 pupils, exploring their identity, environment and learning to create visual passports for the children.

Our Story
Lauriston Primary School

Our Story was a project that aimed to develop creative writing and artwork through the investigation of family history, memory, identity and place. Developed with writer, visual artist and oral historian Rachel Lichtenstein, the project built on the school’s previous explorations of multiple entry points to learning through creative projects. Our Story was on-going at the time of writing: this case study explores its impact to date, and some of the broader outcomes of Lauriston’s involvement with Creative Partnerships.

Lister Community School

The Light Project was a collaboration between Lister Community School and Soda Creative Ltd, a company of digital artists. The same project took place twice over the academic year, from January to March and from March to June 2006. Art, science and ICT were taught through the process of year 8 students creating a film installation on the theme of light.

The Room of Many Me’s
A collaboration with Graeae Theatre Company

The Room of Many Me’s was a developmental collaboration between Creative Partnerships London East and Graeae, the UK’s leading disabled theatre company, that explored identity, difference and understanding. The project was designed as a creative learning experience for pupils based on Graeae’s core philosophy of the aesthetics of access which in itself is rooted in a diversity of communication styles.

Jubilee Primary School

During the 2005-06 academic year, Jubilee Primary School has developed a series of creative projects linked by the theme of mapping: mindmaps, geographical and historical maps, imaginative maps. During the spring term pupils and teachers from years 3, 4 and 5 worked with artist Sophia Lovell Smith to create a series of large-scale mixedmedia artworks, mapping the human body and the local environment. This case study focuses mainly on the outcomes of that project, in the context of Jubilee’s on-going commitment to creative learning and teaching.
