I find it extremely important to encourage and support young people, because creativity comes from within and not entirely externally or through text books. I truly believe that creativity is about imagination, and what better imagination can one have than young people... I remember when I first had the opportunity to experience performances by the Netherlands Dance Theatre and Pina Bausche. It was the most moving thing I had ever witnessed so early in my career. It inspired me to imagine from within myself and my future works. To support organizations which help to provide a platform for young people is crucial for the progress of all artforms - if imagination stops, then the progress of art will stop, if the progress of art stops then hope will stop and if hope stops, then what meaning is there in our lives...

Role: Creative Director of Royal Opera House 2

Creative Partnerships provides young people with new and exciting opportunities for learning, through first hand contact with creative artists and individuals. The process empowers young people to get involved from the beginning, taking responsibility and making decisions about the type of project they want to undertake and the artists they want to work with. This can bring an added dimension to education, helping young people to achieve beyond their expectations, and to discover new things about themselves and the world through their own creativity.

Education must reinvent for itself a real purpose that takes schools beyond standards and exams. Creative Partnerships gives schools unique opportunities to engage with professionals from many fields of expertise. By enabling schools to work closely with professionals from the creative and cultural industries, this initiative helps young people to make informed choices about their futures, learning in new ways and getting access to knowledge they need to thrive.
