Landmark Link: Community Engagement Programme - young people get involved
27 Nov 2008
Future Creative - transforming lives together through innovation and creativity
Area Delivery Organisation: Future Creative - Kent and Medway
Between May and July 2008, Future Creative, funded by the Landmark Patrons, worked with approx 100 young people from five secondary schools in Gravesham and Dartford to enable them to engage with the concepts and ideas that inspired the five Ebbsfleet Landmark proposals.
Through this programme the young people have not only become the champions of the Ebbsfleet Landmark, but have raised their ambitions to become a future generation of young cultural and civic leaders whose growing skills, aspirations and confidence will enable them to achieve a successful future within the new Ebbsfleet Valley community.
With ongoing support and investment, these young people will become the bridge between the two communities, old and new and the key to the long term success of the regeneration process. Landmark Link provides the opportunity to engender a real sense of ownership and pride within our younger generation, not only for the Landmark itself but for the wider community within which they will live.
Arts Council England has expressed a strong interest in supporting a core, two year Landmark Link programme during 2009 and 2010. Building on the initial investment of the Ebbsfleet Patrons, this two year phase will support and extend the reach of the programme to engage the broader communities of Gravesham and Dartford. In order to secure the largest award that Arts Council England grants, of £100,000, we need to secure matched funding from the private sector and local government.
By making a contribution and therefore unlocking this core Arts Council funding, organisations within either the public or private sector have the opportunity to become associated with what aspires to become the largest community engagement programme of our time.
Schools
The five schools involved are:
- Swan Valley Community School
- Axton Chase School
- Northfleet Technology College
- Northfleet Girls School
- St Johns RC Comprehensive.
