The Power of Digital Media

Creative Partnerships Haven Gateway

Brightlingsea Infant School and Brightlingsea Junior School are embarking on an exciting new project that will incorporate ICT into the curriculum as a vehicle for creative learning. Working alongside Professor Stephen Heppell both schools will be experimenting with new media and technology and exploring digital creativity over the next couple of months.

Not just machines for reproducing and distributing information, the schools are embracing the value of computers as tools for learning and creating, and as a means of supporting a child’s imagination.

At the junior school proposed projects include film production, the creation of a school website and the screening of video reports from an outdoor plasma screen that will exhibit the children’s’ work and also serve to involve and inform the parents. The projects will enhance the creativity of the pupils and engage their imagination, and they will also build upon the idea of new technology as an essential communication tool that will connect the pupils, teachers and parents.

Next door at the Brightlingsea Infant School the creation of two outside areas will be designed and created by the children and parents, working together with a landscape gardener and visual artist.
