A Voyage through Drama and Sound
23 Mar 2010
Area Delivery Organisation: Royal Opera House Creative Partnerships
Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, in collaboration with Cardboard Citizens, invites you to take part in their own interpretation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest in the grounds of the school. The whole school will be involved in the interactive drama and sound experience. Parents, governors and local press have also been invited.
During the Spring Term, Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School has been working with practitioners from Cardboard Citizens as part of the Royal Opera House Creative Partnerships Programme.
The practitioners are Reynaldo Young and Terry O’Leary. Reynaldo Young is a music composer and brings sound and music interaction to the work and Terry O’Leary is and actor and trainer in forum theatre.
The School have invested in a three year programme with Creative Partnerships that explores creative teaching and learning opportunities and their project, titled ‘A Voyage Through Drama and Sound’, has seen Reynaldo and Terry work with all children and teachers, experimenting with new drama and sound techniques.
As a celebration of the creative journey the children and teachers have been on, the whole school are performing an interactive drama and sound experience of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, in the grounds of the school. The audience is invited to experience the schools own interpretation of the play and really get a sense of the work the children have been doing.
Lucy Martin, creative agent for the project, comments:
"This has been a unique opportunity for children and staff to work with world-class practitioners in their field. The school have been very open and supportive of new ideas and the performance at the end of the project celebrates the talents and hard work of the children and staff".
