Dormanstown

Dormanstown Primary School have won an award for best use of ICT in Modern Foreign Languages. They were also awarded runners up in the subject category.

They had been short listed for these two prestigious awards by the Northern Grid for Learning.

Rosie Davey, a world renowned animator and filmmaker, worked with staff, Year 2 and Year 5 pupils to develop communication skills by creating animations and an interactive game in French. The project forms part of the school's three year Creative Partnerships Change School programme which provides funding and support to nurture young people's creativity.

The young animators attended the eagerly awaited awards ceremony held in Newcastle on 10 June.

One of the aims of the Northern Grid for Learning is to promote creativity and innovation by supporting the development of best practice in the use of ICT. The Local Authority was so impressed by the children's interactive French game that they now want to roll it out to other Primary schools in the area.
