How Science Works: Opportunities for creative partners and filmmaker

Creative Partnerships Stoke on Trent, together with the Science Learning Centre West Midlands, Stoke on Trent Children and Young People’s Services Science Advisory Service and Setpoint, are looking for creative partners to work with schools to explore the new science curriculum at Key Stage 4 – How Science Works.

This partnership will support five action research projects, which will explore creative teaching approaches to How Science Works. Findings will be disseminated regionally in a sharing event, and resources will be created which may be made available nationally. The projects will centre on a partnership between a teacher, a scientist and a creative partner, working together to plan, deliver and evaluate some creative work with young people.

We aim to
· Inspire teachers and young people to engage in new creative learning practices;
· Develop partnerships based on sharing of different skills and approaches;
· Encourage debate, exploration, experimentation, questioning and innovation;
· Learn new things together;
· Share what we have learnt with others.

We are looking for five creative practitioners or agencies to be at the heart of these partnerships.

We are also looking for a filmmaker to document the process and produce a film which captures the essence of the learning, so we can best share it with others.

· To evaluate the work on an on-going basis, reflecting on progress and refining practice as necessary, and to contribute learning for a case study as requested by the project co-ordinator.
· To participate in a sharing event in Spring 2008
· To work at all times towards the aims of the project.
· To plan work which takes full account of Health and Safety and Child Protection issues.

You should
· Demonstrate highly creative practice as well as high quality product;

The Filmmaker
We are looking for an experienced filmmaker to document the process, and to capture the essence of the learning on film so we can share it effectively with other teachers and practitioners.
Your role will include
· To get footage of the initial concept workshop
· To capture thoughts and responses from participants at agreed stages
· To attend and film key points in each project, communicating with the project co-ordinator to establish a schedule
