:: NewsStrategic programme summaries 2007Find out about eight of our strategic programmes for 2007 Adventures in learning Adventures in learning is a 'students as researchers' programme developed in Christ Church C E Primary School. With drama practitioner Mark Robertson, a group of Gifted and Talented year five pupils have been researching 'teaching and learning' in their school to explore what kind of learning works best for them and their fellow pupils. In Robsack Wood Community Primary School, the Hastings and St Leonards Excellence Cluster has employed poet and writer Richard Evans to lead a parallel project. In conjunction with the Excellence Cluster, the project will be rolled out to two further schools next school year. Plans for next year also include the creation of research groups in each class at Christ Church and the creation of a 'tool kit' and a student led event to support the dissemination of the programme. Create the future is a two day creative careers festival taking place on the 18 and 19 September 2007 at University Centre Hastings. The festival brings together pupils and teachers from 10 secondary schools in Hastings and Rother, with a wide range of professionals from the creative and cultural industries to explore new ways in which they can work with, collaborate, and learn from each other. Create the future will raise the horizons and aspirations of young people, providing hands-on opportunities to work alongside a wealth of young creative professionals, and learn about their backgrounds, influences, choices and career pathways. In addition to the partner organisations, the event is supported by a range of institutions and organisations including the BBC, Screen South, Connexions, Media Box and many others. Culture Shared is a year-long CPD programme, characterised by shared training experiences and supported planning, delivery and review of 11 partnership projects each involving a cultural provider, specialist school and creative practitioner/s. The programme provides opportunities for participants to learn about and reflect on each others practice, understand how creative and cultural resources can support the bigger picture of education initiatives and developments and encourage organisations from both sectors to explore new ways of working. There is an emphasis on developing an understanding of creative learning and its relevance to learning in cultural organisations, and all organisations are undertaking a project, involving creative partners, that will apply their learning and demonstrate an impact in terms of capacity building and sustainability. A drama practitioner and a dance specialist are working in three secondary schools with year ten students, enabling exploration of the theme as it relates to students' lives both in and out of school. The emphasis is for CPD for staff as well as the face-to-face work yielding benefits for the students involved. A group of 10 students from the Belonging project at Chailey School led a session at the County Equalities and Diversities Conference and three appeared on BBC Southern Counties Radio speaking about the project. Glyndebourne transition programme Glyndebourne Opera has been working with schools in the Peacehaven and Newhaven area for three years on a transition programme, designed to introduce young people to opera and to support learning across the transition phase.
