:: NewsPicture by Tracy Welch Dare to JamOn 28 June, despite floods and dramatic weather across the region, 20 students and teachers from South Yorkshire schools rocked the rafters in a special 'Dare to Jam' Event with top musicians. The line up of creative artists included Simon Stafford of Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros and Tim McCall, both currently touring with Jarvis Cocker, Sarah Jay Hawley, best known for her work with Massive Attack and digital composer, Nigel Humberstone from 'In the Nursery'. The students, who were drummers, singers or guitarists, worked on a special track with their mentors and came together in the afternoon for an improvised Jamming session, creating different versions of 'Let Me Entertain You', by Robbie Williams. Georgina Coupland, a pupil from one of the schools said, 'Events like this help your confidence because you are working with creative people who expect a lot, you have to stand up there and just let it happen!' Creative Director, Brigidin Crowther said, 'This event is designed to inspire, teach and offer access to special creative people in our sector. We design this programme using top creatives in music, design, games and digital media. It is about finding innovative ways to learn more about the creative and digital industries and experience firsthand some of the challenges and opportunities out there.' Dare to Jam is part of Zapstudio, a programme including a series of events, workshops and master classes designed to support real access to the creative industries for schools and talented young people. |
