stepUP

stepUP is a training and development programme for Derby or Derbyshire based BME artist to develop their artform and learn new skills e.g. leading workshops, understanding contracts, finance and funding. plus mentoring by the UK's top artists......and it's FREE!

Creative Partnerships Derby is looking for up to 6 experienced practitioners and 6 inspiring mentors from Black and Ethnic Minority (BME) backgrounds practising in Derby or Derbyshire, to participate in a training programme to extend their art-form practice and develop their ability to work in educational and participatory settings. The StepUP programme offers access to an opportunity to BME artists to extend their practice which will in turn enrich the multicultural life of Derby.

Creative Partnerships Derby is partnering with Derby City Council’s Arts and Events Team and a range of partner organisations from the creative industries and education sectors as part of their commitment to diversity, to offer a programme that will provide training and development opportunities for practitioners from BME backgrounds. The partner organisations are Quad, CIN, Apples and Snakes, Mainstream Partnership and Creative Launchpad. This work will be supported by Sally Lemsford for Creative Partnerships Derby working with the project management team.

Artists
Artists will attend training sessions, go and see other artists working in their art-form, be mentored and have experience of working in partnership to deliver work in an educational setting. The aim of this project is to develop the potential of practitioners working in Derby (and thus to increase the number of BME artists capable of delivering CP projects) to deliver high-quality work representing a diversity of cultures from across the city.

Mentors
We are seeking up to 6 mentors with a background in visual, literary or performance art, to mentor culturally diverse artists for 3 days between November 2007 and March 2008, sessions to be negotiated but including advising the artists for the educational project and showcase event, giving feedback and attending an evaluation session.
