:: The project concept

With support from partners (architect John Mitchell and sculptor Tan Draig), young people and staff from the school explored the use of limited fixed buildings and open areas around the school by completing a consultation and development process led by practitioners.

This development project worked with the school to explore the use of space and identify how they might start to create learning environments that reflect shared ownership of spaces between pupils, teachers and the local community.

Young people worked with the architect to produce a report which they presented to the school governors as a proposal for a development programme to focus on creative spaces for learning. Young people successfully secured financial support from the governors who will support the 'improvement costs' through capital funding received by the school.

The transformation of each 'new space for learning' (indoor and outdoor) will take place, alongside a cross-curricular projects, in the school from autumn term 2006.
